Meet Heath J. Harris

Heath J. Harris is the founding financial advisor of Compound Advisory, a fee-only fiduciary Registered Investment Adviser based in Annapolis, Maryland. The firm serves retirees, business owners, and high-net-worth families nationwide.

Heath started Compound Advisory after years of watching households arrive at the planning conversation a decade later than they should have. Usually after a product sale. A rollover gone sideways. An investment-only relationship that never coordinated taxes, income, or estate decisions. The firm exists because the retirement transition deserves a planning-first relationship, not an investment-first one.

The work centers on retirement income planning, tax-aware wealth management, Social Security timing, Medicare and IRMAA planning, business owner exit work, and estate coordination. Compound Advisory is fee-only and fiduciary on every account. Assets are held at independent custodians — Altruist and Charles Schwab — and we cap new relationships to keep planning depth high.

The firm is based in Annapolis, Maryland and serves clients across all 50 states through secure video meetings and cloud-based planning tools. Most relationships are virtual. In-person meetings are available for Mid-Atlantic households that prefer that format.

What sets the practice apart is not the credentials. There are many qualified advisors. It is the model. No products. No commissions. No proprietary funds. No quotas. The only economic incentive the advisor has is to give you advice you will still agree with a decade from now.

Advisor Focus

  • Retirement income planning for households with $1M+ in investable assets
  • Tax-aware wealth management — Roth conversions, IRMAA, withdrawal sequencing
  • Business owner exit planning and post-exit retirement income design
  • Fee-only fiduciary advice with no product commissions or kickbacks
  • Independent custody at Altruist and Charles Schwab

Credentials and Background

Heath J. Harris is the founding advisor. The firm is registered with the SEC (CRD #334484). Form CRS and the ADV brochures live in the Disclosures section of this site and on the official IAPD adviser search.

We do not take custody of client assets. Investments are held at independent third-party custodians — primarily Altruist and Charles Schwab — and statements come from the custodian, not from us. That separation between the advisor and the custody is one of the structural protections of working with a registered investment adviser. Most retail investors do not know to look for it. It matters.

How We Work With Clients

We cap new relationships. We take on the number of households we can serve well, not the number we could technically onboard. The first conversation is always the Retirement Clarity Assessment — a complimentary 60-minute virtual session where we look at the real numbers, surface the highest-impact planning decisions, and decide together whether an ongoing engagement makes sense for your household.

If it does, the engagement follows a predictable cadence. Written plan in the first 90 days. Implementation across custodians. Annual review every year. Mid-year check-ins around tax planning, market moves, or life events that change the picture. If it does not make sense, we will say so and point you somewhere we think serves you better. The point of the first conversation is clarity, not conversion.
